This is the second TAKEOVER exhibition. The students exhibiting are 2nd and 3rd year Creative Arts and Fine Art students taking the Interdisciplinary Practice core modules.

I am very pleased and proud to be leading the Creative Arts degree scheme, now in its 3rd year. It was launched with one student in 2014 and to date I have processed over 60 applications for September 2017. Beginning as a work in progress it is now a firmly established degree scheme within the Institute of Arts and Humanities portfolio. The students select from a wide range of modules from across the institute to develop individually tailored pathways through Fine Art, Creative Writing, Film & TV and Theatre, Performance & Scenography. The suite of core modules guide and support the students through a rigorous process of self reflection, experimentation and research towards self led interdisciplinary projects that draw from the expertise and skills they have gained through their selected modules, culminating in a final site specific intervention project that directly or subtly intervenes with the architecture, culture and creative programme offered by the Arts Centre.

At the beginning of the academic year students were asked to identify an aspect of the Arts Centre that particularly interested them, through a series of workshops and discussions the students were led more deeply into an understanding and appreciation of the structure, function and culture of the ‘site’, enabling them to explore and reveal qualities of the centre in pursuit of unique expressions of their findings.

I hope you will agree that the 14 site specific interdisciplinary interventions in this years TAKEOVER are exciting, challenging and original responses, interpretations and revelations to a publicly engaged platform that is central to the Aberysytwyth community.

I would like to express my thanks to the Arts Centre staff for accommodating and supporting this project, to all the IAH lecturers who have taught these students through their various modules, to the 3rd year curatorial team for all their ideas, passion, enthusiasm and hard work in helping to bring this exhibition to its realization and of course to the students for their inspired and insightful projects.
